Native american jewelry
There has been a growing interest for Native American Jewelry in recent years. Many people have really expressed a love for this particular type of jewelry as many Americans have Native American heritage in their blood. The type of jewelery that the Native Americans made has been proven through archaeological evidence to even predate the Christian era. The main jewel type that is used is turquoise. Especially in the Southwestern region, the Navajo, Hopi, Sioux, and Zuni tribes handcraft their jewelry, pottery, and other crafts. The reason for the use of so much turquoise is that it is abundant there but is a mineral deposit that is isolated in this geographical area. Another item used is spiny oyster shell that is found around Baja, California. However, turquoise has been used because it is deeply appreciated and held in high regards for the past 2000 years. Turquoise has been thought to contain magical properties and was very powerful as well as important in many Native American ceremonies. If one travels to the Southwest, it will be no surprise that turquoise is still used in Native American Jewelry today. The Pima tribe thought turquoise to heal several ailments that affected them. The Zuni tribe believed that the blue turquoise represented the male of the sky and the green turquoise represented the female of the earth. Of course, turquoise was used in many rituals. The Hopi tribe considered it to enhance their powers. The Apache trusted that if it was attached to their bow or gun that the turquoise would cause the weapon to shoot straight. The Navajo tribe believed that if they wore and used turquoise that it would bring them good luck and the favor of the Yeis would be upon them. The Yeis were the mediators between man and the supernatural. Turquoise is of high quality and is still in abundance in the southwestern region. However, some that looks like turquoise is not the real deal so it is important to know what is real and what isn’t so a shopper of such jewelry will not get taken for a fool. The individual turquoise really has not significant value but when placed in a form of art, such as the jewelry the work has great value. Over seventy percent of craftsman use turquoise as their choice when making jewelry. Depending on how well the gem contrasts the silver or gold used and how rare it is are the factors that determine the cost. If they are not so rare, it is fairly inexpensive costing only about five to seven dollars per carat. However, it can exceed forty dollars per carat. Much like other things, it’s not the solitary item that is used that is the most expensive. It is the time, effort, and work that go into a piece of artwork or anything else that makes it a whole that determine how much the overall jewelry piece will cost. If anyone ever visits the Southwest, the Native American Jewelry there is truly remarkable and one’s breath will surely be taken away when viewing these elegant pieces up close.

Designer native american jewelry
Designer Native American Jewelry is very stylish and has much pride behind it. Of course, the generation that today makes the different types of jewelry learned from their ancestors. They are very happy and excited that they could learn something that has been passed down from century to century. It is also said to be very therapeutic while making the jewelry. There is one designer of Native American jewelry that stands out. Ray Tracey is a Navajo Native American and has been an accomplished jeweler since 1977. His work is very well sought out and has a fascination for the Japanese culture; he even coined the phrase “Native Samurai”. He uses Corals, Lapis, and the ever-popular turquoise. He in-lays them perfectly into each of his pieces and has won many awards over the years for his designer jewelry that he has created. I am sure that his ancestors would be most pleased with his persistence in keeping his culture alive but also by trying out new things and in-cooperating his own fascination within his jewelry. To be so well recognized as Mr. Tracey is, one has to work many long hard nights and years in order to get their craft down to where it is popular. Sometimes, to make the jewelry look even more outlandish a pearl or opal could also be used. However, with the patterns and technique used, it is in no harm of taking away from the Native American heritage and culture. Although turquoise is the most popular and preferred by designers of Native American Jewelry, there is always room to explore anything and any idea that one may have when constructing a new piece of jewelry for a potential buyer to have and look on with great admiration on the work that went behind it. Mr. Tracey is just one of many designers but each one brings something special to the new line of merchandise that they may bring forth. Most people that do the kind of work involved seem to be relatively happy with their every day events. The customers that would call a person that designs Native American Jewelry are wholeheartedly interested in the work and want to bring into their home a piece of history as well. When one looks at a turquoise necklace, they may think that it is just another necklace. To another, it could mean where they come from and something to potentially pass down to future generations. For the tribe, they will be able to pass down the secret of the trade so that their young ones can learn how to keep the tradition alive when showing them how to design the perfect necklace or bracelet.

There is no question about it. Native American jewelry can become quite expensive if you are looking for genuine, authentic pieces of jewelry from this genre. Some prices can run as much as five hundred dollars if it is mad well. Not to worry, many stores across the country offer discounts at an affordable price so that tourists as well as the general public might be able to better afford them. With the elaborate designs that range from hogans, coyotes, birds, bison, and many other designs that are displayed on rings and bracelets the artists and sellers to make an effort for the every day patron to be able to afford them better so they can bring them home to wear with their favorite outfit. Other people gain a great joy out of collecting these great pieces of culture that show the spirit of the Native Americans. Discount Native American Jewelry can be found at local Southwestern shops when one is on vacation, through flea markets, online web stores, and EBay. Some of the jewelry is made from fourteen-karat gold, .925 sterling silver, and .950 platinum that can be found throughout the stores. Many places offer and additional fifty percent off when you purchase through a predetermined date. These types of discounts for Native American Jewelry can come in quite handy when the overall price of said jewelry reaches the hundred-dollar mark. The turquoise, which is a favorite gem to be used for much of the southwestern region, and sterling silver are quite expensive. Therefore, when a customer is searching out a piece of Native American jewelry to add to their collection, it would be very wise of them to also search for stores that offer discounts as well as free shipping and handling if they are tight on money but want a piece of artistic jewelry that is durable and gorgeous at the same time. With the Christmas holidays coming up and children having a different array of interests, it is a wise idea to look for places that offer free shipping with orders over say one hundred dollars. If one buys a good piece of Native American Jewelry, they can easily get this discount as I personally saw an Eagle Pendant with a Turquoise nugget for sixty-five dollars. If a parent is busy this pendant with a good silver chain, they have hit the over hundred dollar mark and do not have to worry themselves with the shipping and handling fees any longer. Discounts for Native American jewelry are out there; a customer needs only to look. I believe it took me around five minutes to search for good deals on these gorgeous pieces of artworks. I am positive anyone can do the same.
