When one looks at the various amounts of Native American Jewelry that is out in the shops for sale, a person is bound to stumble across and wonder what the symbols on the pieces of jewelry mean. A few symbols that make a person curious concerning Native American Jewelry are the thunderhead, arrow, and sun. It is even more of a curiosity when the three symbols are joined together on a piece of jewelry so eloquently and beautifully that it drives a person’s mind into awe and wonderment. Concerning Native American Jewelry with the thunderbird, arrow, and sun, the person must understand what the symbols represent and what they mean exactly. As the Native American people, no matter what tribe, have a significant symbolism behind every creature of the world. The Native Americans, who I will be calling them that instead of Indians, are completely attuned in prayer and love for the spirit world and the creatures that walk our planet. As far as the renowned Thunderbird symbol in their culture goes, it stands for the sacred bearer of unlimited happiness. There is, therefore, no question as to why one would want the symbol of the Thunderbird on their pendant or other piece of jewelry. Every human on the face of the planet wishes for a long life of happiness and when wearing this sacred symbol, they believe that they are bringing their chances for that to happen a lot closer to them through, perhaps, mystical type of powers. The arrow symbolizes protection. Much like the Christian beliefs that the crucifix with Jesus protects them, the Native American culture believes that the arrow brings them protection if they don the symbol upon their jewelry. It is easy to believe that this is what they would think because the arrow shoots straight and narrow, being the main source of their artillery. Together with the Thunderbird and the arrow the Native American peoples believe that they are protected and have a much better and higher chance of becoming happy. As a third symbol on the piece of sterling silver jewelry embedded with mostly turquoise, but can also have other gems such as diamonds or onyx, is also the sun. The sun symbols constitute happiness and if there are rays attached to the design that the artists has put on the particular piece of jewelry, that happiness will remain constant, just as the sun’s rays. Together, all three of these pivotal symbols in Native American jewelry; thunder bird, arrow, and sun is believed by this particular culture to bring an unending sense of happiness, protection, and all of these things are those that all humans strive for everyday.
